Stay healthy and Enjoy wellness for life

Add Wellness to Life

Sometimes, small changes can go a big way in ushering in the wellness into life…Here are some to get you started.

• Replace potatoes in your favourite recipes like tikkis, cutlets or pattices with raw bananas or elephant foot or yam which are low GI(glycemic index) as compared to potatoes.

• Substitute the sugar in cake or fudge batter with honey.

• Instead of maida i.e. refined flour, use healthy alternatives like soya powder, oat bran powder or whole wheat flour in your recipes.

• To your roti atta, add 1 measure of Vellife Fenugreek powder to enhance its nutritive value.

• Instead of aerated drinks, opt for coconut water which is rich in electrolytes or have unsweetened fruit juice.

• Washing hands repeatedly with soap and water or alcohol based sanitizers when clean water is unavailable is important to wash away infections.

• For an acne free skin, change your pillow covers every few days. Resting your face on a bacteria filled cover can cause acne breakouts.

• Grind walnuts, almonds and khoya in equal measure and add to three measures of ground dates to get a nutritional sweet.

• If you cannot do without papads, roast them instead of frying them.

• Start taking the stairs …even 2 minutes of stair climbing a day can help you lose 2 pounds of weight in a month… so start today.

• Substitute chemical air fresheners with natural ones like rose water or lavender water.

• Replace at least one cup of tea per day with green tea, it not only contains an array of antioxidants but it also boosts weight loss.

• Replace chips and cream biscuits with fruits, nuts and other healthy snacks.

• If you cannot find a whole continuous 30 minutes for exercise, split your exercise regimen into 10 minute interludes.

• Even at your desk while at work, take periodic breaks and walk around the room.

• Do simple leg exercises even while deskbound. Extend one leg out straight in front of you. Hold for two seconds. Then raise it up as high as you can, and hold it again for two seconds. Repeat with each leg 15 times.

• Replace the sugar in your tea with Vellife Sugar Substitute and keep a check on the calories.

• If you like swimming, go for a dip every day. Two brisk laps can burn calories equivalent to a slow run around the park.

• Add flax seeds to your regular mouth freshener (mukhwas) mixture. Flax is rich in Omega 3 fatty acid and is good for the heart.

• Choose baked or boiled dishes over fried ones

• Prefer brown rice because it has low GI(glycemic index) and has many vitamins and enzymes as compared to the white version.

• Neither costly equipment nor space is required to start off an exercise regimen. Grab a yoga or aerobics CD and get started.

• Be sure to moisturize your skin every day. If you do not like the ones available in the store, mix a tablespoon of honey in milk and use it twice a week to keep skin hydrated.

• To beat the heat during summer, apply ice packs or cold compresses to pulse points at the wrists, neck, elbows, ankles, and behind the knees.

• Music has proven health and stress relief benefits, and can be easily incorporated in daily life to relieve stress. You can turn on music in the background during your commute to and from work, during dinner, or as you go about your daily activities.

• If you work long hours eliminating the chances of an early morning or post work exercise session, take a 10 minute walk during your lunch break. Something is better than nothing.

• Set measurable and attainable goals for exercise like I will lose 2 Kgs or 1 inch this month and work towards it.
